Computing facilities required
The following requirements are the minimum specification recommended to participate in our courses.
PC Hardware
- PC 2GHz
- 2GB of RAM
- 500MB of free hard disk space
- SVGA display 800x600
- CD-ROM drive (4X)
- Speakers and soundcard
- Mouse / keyboard
- A means of offline storage such as a memory stick or external hard drive
- Internet access - Broadband preferred
- We strongly recommend that students have access to a printer
PC Software
- Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7
- A web browser [Support is provided for Internet Explorer (version 8 or higher) and Mozilla Firefox (version 4 or higher). Other web browsers may be used, but may present incompatibilities with the course website. Students experiencing technical difficulties caused by browser incompatibility will be advised to download and use one of the supported browsers.]
- Flash Player (latest version)
- A PDF reader such as Adobe Reader (latest version) or Foxit Reader (latest version)
- A .doc file compatible office suite, such as Microsoft Office or LibreOffice
Note: Students studying the Advanced Diploma in Local History require the Microsoft Office Professional edition which includes the Access database application. Some other courses also require additional browser plug-ins. Please check the promotional website of the course you intend to study for its specific IT requirements.

Students experiencing technical difficulties caused by browser incompatibility will be advised to download and use one of the supported browsers.]
- Flash Player (latest version)
- A PDF reader such as Preview (built in to OS X v10.5 and later) or Adobe Reader (latest version)
- A .doc file compatible office suite such as iWork, Microsoft Office for Mac, or LibreOffice
Note: Students studying the Advanced Diploma in Local History require the Microsoft Office Professional edition which includes the Access database application. Mac users studying this course will also required PC emulation software, such as Parallels. Some other courses also require additional browser plug-ins. Please check the promotional website of the course you intend to study for its specific IT requirements.
