The Open University offers a series of free online courses on basic computing skills including:

If you’d prefer to attend a face-to-face course the best place to start is to find out if your local community college or further education college offer adult education classes in basic computing skills. University of Oxford IT courses (for students taking award-bearing courses only)
Students who are registered on the Department’s award-bearing courses (i.e. students holding a University Card and an Oxford username) are eligible to enrol on a range of IT courses offered by the University of Oxford’s IT Services department.
