More tools
If you are interested in other tools that could help your learning you may want to investigate some of the following:
RSS/News feeds/Aggregators
These tools allow you to see when websites have added new content. You can get the latest updates, headlines and announcements in one place, as soon as they are published, without having to visit many different websites. The News feeds from the BBC screen gives a good overview of how these work or you may want to watch the following short video from Common Craft for an easy to understand overview.
The most well known aggregators include Bloglines and Google Reader.
Homepage sites
These tools let you collect a selection of updated content and information on one site, which you can then use as your homepage. The most well known homepage services include iGoogle and My Yahoo.
Mapping tools
These allow you to see maps of anywhere easily and in most cases overlay satellite images of the location as well. These tools can also help you visualise mapping and special data in new ways. The most well known are Google Maps, and Windows Live Search Maps.
Online office tools
Google and others now offer free online tools that replicate the main functionality of the standard office programmes such as word processing and spreadsheets. These tools also often allow you to collaborate on documents with other users. Perhaps the most well known of these tools is Google Docs but Zoho also offers a wide selection.
