Protecting yourself from phishing attacks

Phishing is an attempt to gain sensitive details (passwords or other information) for malicious reasons, usually by a person, or an organisation pretending to be legitimate.

Never give your account details to another person, even if the request appears to be legitimate. Staff at CONTED will always be able to help you without knowing your password, and we will never ask you to provide these details over the phone, or via email.

If you give your account details to another person you may be putting the university network at risk and we strongly advise you to report any such attempts to get information to phishing@it.ox.ac.uk.

Please see the main IT Services advice page for more information about staying safe online.

If you have been the victim of a phishing attack you may need to run the SOPHOS Home software to remove any malware or bugs from your system.
